BlackDog's Word Whirl Games-Instructions
Word Whirl is based on "word chain" games familiar to most people.
Word chain games challenge you to connect a starting word and an ending
word with a series of intermediate words, each of which differs from
the previous word by exactly one letter.
For example, a typical word chain might ask you to connect PAGE with BOOK.
To solve the puzzle, you could proceed like this:
PAGE
PACE
PACK
RACK
ROCK
ROOK
BOOK
Like a word chain puzzle, with Word Whirl you connect a starting word
and an ending word by finding a series of qualifying intermediate words.
There are two important differences:
- In a Word Whirl game you are allowed a specific number of steps to
get from the start word to the end word. You must use that number
of steps - no more, no less - in order to win.
- Instead of a single rule for connecting words, in Word Whirl there
are six ways - called transition rules - of getting from one word to the
next. Each step of a Word Whirl game tells you the rule that you
must follow for that step.
Each game has that game's rules listed on the left side of the game.
There's even a cute little image illustrating the rule. However, here
are all of the transition rules you will see:
- Rule 1 - Add a letter
- Rule 2 - Change a letter
- Rule 3 - Move a letter
- Rule 4 - Remove a letter
- Rule 5 - Scramble the letters
- Rule 6 - Swap two letters
That's it. Have fun!
